Something For Everyone
And the Hot Barns Too!
There have been 75 races run in the first few days of the 2026 WOODBINE season and already, 39 different trainers have won at least one race. That is over 50 percent of the races being won by different conditioners and all but four of those are stabled at Woodbine. The four victorious invaders have been Eoin Harty, Joe Sharp, Wesley Ward and Saffie Joseph, Jr.
Similarly, the Woodbine rider colony is bursting at the seams and 37 jockeys have ridden in at least one race with 24 having guided a winner.
The hot stables have taken advantage of their horses training or racing during the winter. Bill Tharrenos, Debra Rombis, Katerina Vassilieva and Steven Chircop are among those.
The first 3-day week of the meeting had a lower-than-usual quality of horses and no stakes races. The weather was cool and windy.
This past weekend saw a definite outside flow to the races that led to off-the-pace winners. A number of winners not only came from parts south but also were turning back in distance after racing at longer distances in the U.S. Those included Piper’s Factor and Conn Smythe.
Take some time to go over the results from last week and mark down your thoughts on the track and any horses who appeared to have troubled trips. A few of those who can be considered next time include SPRINGER, MISTER BLUE and MOHAYMEN DIAMOND.
